ABSTRACT: This thematic session presents advancements in the use of remote sensing and associated technologies for sustainable urban management and climate change mitigation within the FAPESP thematic project "UrbVerde: Public Policies for Territorial Qualification Oriented to Climate Adaptation and Inequality Reduction." The research includes monitoring urban heat islands and greenhouse gas emissions in the Greater ABC region, analyzing their impacts on public health and urban planning. The session also discusses the development of tools for urban expansion analysis and territorial qualification in the state of São Paulo, utilizing machine learning and digital image processing. Another highlight is the implementation of computational models with remote sensing to support flood prevention policies in Diadema-SP. Additionally, the session covers the update of the UrbVerde Platform, applying User Experience Design principles in a WebGIS, and the use of remote sensing in education to promote climate justice through urban vegetation monitoring. The session emphasizes the importance of these innovations in formulating effective public policies and promoting more inclusive and resilient urban planning in the face of climate challenges.
