ABSTRACT: Thermal InfraRed (TIR) remote sensing expands the pool of applications related to Earth systems and processes. Considering the classical imagery of the Landsat thermal series and with wide field-of-view systems (e.g. MODIS), new TIR remote sensing sensors are developing and will improve the application possibilities. In this session, we explore emissivity and temperature products, present energy and
water balances of the Earth's surface applications, land emissivity data for land degradation (sandification/desertification), and natural/anthropic activities monitoring. The proposed session is expected to strengthen Brazil's thermal remote sensing community by exploring new capabilities and opportunities.
